Consultation has concluded
The District Council of Yankalilla is currently considering the development of the Rapid Bay foreshore area with a focus on attracting divers, fishers and other recreational users to enjoy our unique marine life and coastal environment.
The area being considered is currently privately owned. Council are in early discussions regarding a lease over the land to ensure their investment is sustainble.
The area provides some challenges in relation to the sensitive coastal environment and holds particular importance to the local Traditional Owners.
It is most likely that Council will seek funding from both government and private bodies to achieve the development.
It is expected that it will take at least 2 - 3 years to achieve the environmental, Aboriginal, landholder and government requirements and meet the needs of recreational users.
