Draft District Council of Yankalilla Strategic Plan

Natures Best – Let’s Plan the Rest was the biggest community consultation ever undertaken by the District Council of Yankalilla, running from October 2019 through to February 2020.

It was a significant process of having meaningful conversations within our community to gain a clear understanding of what people who live, work and play here want for the future. We wanted to identify shared hopes for our district, starting with a blank page.

We’re so pleased that 1,247 people got involved in this process and resulted in a What We Heard report (PDF, 17,640KB) sharing over 300 pages of diverse opinions, needs and ideas from our community!

Whilst we received thousands of individual suggestions, the key priorities that we heard from our community time and time again fit into five overarching themes – our environment, our community, our economy, our infrastructure and our leadership.

We have now used these insights to prepare a document that sets out a high-level direction for Council in the next 10 years, based on these 5 themes. Also included in this draft plan are the 12 community priorities that emerged, and a number of ‘priority projects’ that Council will focus on for the next 4 years.

We are now returning to you, our community, to share with you this high-level Draft Strategic Plan (PDF 2,509 KB) that will guide our work in the coming years.

Have we got it right? Did we hear you correctly when you told us what was important for us to be delivering for our district? Whilst not every individual suggestion can be incorporated, particularly at this strategic level, are you generally satisfied that what’s important to you has been somehow reflected in our plan for the future?
