Elector Representation - have we got it right?
Every 8 years council is required by law to undertake a Representation Review to consider the various options available to appropriately represent its community including:

changing the council’s name and/or the names of the wards

changing the council’s name and/or the names of the wards
The last time Yankalilla Council conducted a Representation Review was in 2016 when the two current Wards (Field and Light) were retained. As part of this Review we are asking the community to consider changing the name of our council to Fleurieu Coast Council as well as consider the composition of council and its wards and boundaries.
Pursuant to Section 12(7) of the Local Government Act 1999 (the Act), Council has prepared a Representation Report that:
examines the advantages and disadvantages available to Council in regard to its future composition and structure, in particular whether the number of members should be reduced, and the question whether the council area should be divided into wards; and
sets out the proposal that the Council considers should be carried into effect at the next Local Government elections scheduled in 2026.
In accordance with Section 12(2) and 12(6) of the Local Government Act 1999, the Representation Report examines and sets out a proposal to change the name of the Council to ‘Fleurieu Coast Council’.
We are now seeking feedback on the Representation Review Report and the proposal to change Council's name.

Next steps
Council will consider the community engagement results regarding the Representation Review and Renaming DCY in early 2025. Once Council has made a decision on its proposed approach to the representation structure and renaming the matter will be referred to the Electoral Commissioner of South Australia who will determine whether Council’s proposals are consistent with the requirements of Section 12 of the Local Government Act 1999.

Fleurieu Coast is now well established as the place name for our district that captures and represents all of our townships and communities under one identity. Do you think its time to align Councils name and transition to Fleurieu Coast Council?
